How To Resolve Water Damage

How many times have you thought about how neat it would be to have rain gently trickling into your home from your ceiling? Umm, how about never, right!? Well a few years ago I had just that happen. A storm rolled-in and the water came through so much it destroyed some of our electrical. As a first-time homeowner, I had no idea how damaging water could be. The good news is, this soggy lesson learned gave me some tips to share with you on My Water Damage 101 List. First are some need-knows about water damage. It can definitely come from sources other than mother nature, like a broken pipe and whatever the culprit may be, water can immediately start wreaking havoc. And, it can do more damage than you’d think… it shrinks leather... warps wood...damages carpet and if not taken care properly, that damage can also become a health hazard and lead to mold problems.

Second on my list, what to do first in the unfortunate event your home has turned into a water park. Look for any potential electrical hazards and beware of slippery surfaces. If you determined it’s safe, and there’s no immediate danger, you should get in touch with a water removal and damage restoration specialist. Keep in mind, mitigating water damage requires trained specialists who know how to address all potential consequences and not only does a professional need to know how to fix the damage, they also need to know where to look. A company like Restoration 1 professionals will help to handle difficult water removal tasks.

Now, these aren’t your husband’s buddies! All the Restoration 1 pros are thoroughly trained in water removal and damage restoration services and are certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) and the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA). You want someone you can trust to get the job done right.

Next you’ll want to to act fast while you are waiting on the pros to arrive. You need to minimize the water damage! Turn on fans and your air conditioner and open windows, hang any colorful upholstery, rugs and cushions, collect loose items from table tops, floors, and walls and store in a dry and airy place, start mopping to remove water and wipe down any wooden furniture or place a waterproof barrier like aluminum foil between furniture legs and wet carpet.

Lastly, but most importantly, be prepared! When water damage occurs, you might not have a lot of time to search for the right professional. Restoration 1 is a name to remember when disaster strikes. If you’d like, you can learn more about water damage prevention and the pros at Restoration 1 on their website Restoration1.com. So add that to your list and stay dry out there, y’all!
