American Heart Health Month: Show Your Support

February is American Heart Month and for good reason: heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, so it’s time to raise awareness and show your support for heart health!

There are so many easy ways to take care of your ticker and encourage others to do the same.

1. Sodium Intake

Most people take in too much sodium, which can lead to health problems like high blood pressure. When you’re cooking, try using seasonings instead of salt to add flavor. Some delicious options include herbs and spices, garlic, onions and peppers, even lemon, lime and ginger!

2. Take Action at Work

No more sitting at your desk all day long! Why not start a fitness group with your colleagues? You can encourage and challenge each other to get moving. Try hosting a 20-minute group walk around your office at lunchtime.

3. Fashion!

Here’s a fun way to show you care about heart health -- through fashion! In honor of American Heart Month, Macy’s is offering limited-edition merchandise, promotions and in-store events to benefit Go Red For Women throughout February. Macy's has helped to raise more than $55 million dollars to support Go Red For Women since 2004, which has funded vital research and education efforts that save 285 lives every day.

Take a look at these gorgeous ways to get involved. Macy’s is offering three exclusive limited-edition red dresses by Kensie, Thalia and Calvin Klein. That’s in addition to exclusive fitness gear by active wear brand Ideology, all benefiting Go Red For Women. Check these beauties out below! These are available in select stores and on macys.com.

Macy’s was the presenting sponsor of the American Heart Association’s® Go Red For Women® Red Dress Collection™, which kicked off New York Fashion Week on February 11th. This year’s runway show featured inspiring and powerful women including newly crowned Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, "TODAY Show" anchor Tamron Hall, and "Top Chef" judge Gail Simmons.

And to finish off the look, you can’t go wrong with a classic red lip or mani to show your support. Here’s to good health and a happy heart!
