4th of July Recipes + "Hendependence" Day

When you think of a 4th of July Celebration, BBQs, beaches and pool parties probably come to mind, right? Most of us will head outside to celebrate this year and I have some ideas to help you plan your party menu. Eggs are a staple food for entertaining and there are so many delicious ways to cook them up.

But before you even crack your first shell, here’s a fun fact to keep in mind while you’re filling out your grocery list. The Fourth of July is often celebrated outside, but imagine never having access to the great outdoors. Well, while you celebrate the Fourth of July this year, the hens at the happy egg company farms are also celebrating their “Hendependence.”

Because these hens, unlike most egg-laying hens, are free to spend each of their days under the sun, frolicking through acres of open space, socializing and doing what hens do naturally. Unfortunately most eggs sold in the U.S. still come from hens who live their entire lives indoors, this includes cage free eggs too. Even most of the free range and organic eggs out there come from hens who only get access to a tiny amount of outdoor space despite what you might see depicted on various egg cartons. The happy egg company implements the highest animal welfare standards of all the free range brands, giving their hens 8 acres to roam each day.

When it comes to family gatherings and cookouts, you want to serve nothing but the tastiest eggs. This year, look out for the bright yellow carton – happy eggs, from happy hens, will make a very happy Fourth of July!

Here are a few delicious recipe ideas:

Italian Fried Egg and Portabella burgers - grilled, seasoned mushroom topped with cheese, peppers, arugula and fried egg to finish it off!

Everyone loves a classic Deviled Egg and these have a tasty twist with bacon and cheddar.

Both of these recipes, among others, can be found at thehappyeggco.com and while you’re on the website use the store locator feature to find the closest retail location to you!

Happy 4th of July Everyone!
