Labor Day Travel Tips

Michelle Yarn

With Labor Day almost here, now’s the time to start thinking about taking advantage of that long weekend. I know what you may be thinking - how can I possibly stop what I’m doing and take a vacation?! You’re not alone!

In fact, Hilton Garden Inn found in a recent survey that 71% of women would clone themselves to achieve everything they need to get done in a day, which is why they created the Hilton Garden Inn Bright Minds Team to inspire women like you and me with bright ideas and advice to make the daily hustle smoother and more manageable.

Cindy Goodman, is a member of Hilton Garden Inn’s Bright Minds Team, and she’s a syndicated columnist and work/life balance specialist. Check out some of her tips to hopefully make getting ready for last-minute, Labor Day travel just a little bit easier.

Tip #1: Get sleep.

The night before traveling, many of us have the urge to stay up late trying to get things done. Set a bedtime the night before takeoff and stick to it. It’s easy to be cranky if you don’t get a good night’s sleep and you want to start your journey pumped for adventure.

Tip #2: Prepare for an easy exit.

The night before traveling, put your suitcases by the front door along with a list of what needs to be done before walking out the door. Whether that’s packing your phone charger, feeding the fish, turning off the lights.

Whatever the task, creating that list allows you to get out the door quickly and creates peace of mind.

Tip #3: Make a playlist.

Before you leave on a trip, make yourself a “wind down” playlist. This will help you soothe yourself to sleep on the plane or in your hotel room. It can also help you relax a bit if the flight is delayed. The idea is to set a calming tone for your trip before you’ve even taken off.

Tip #4: Don’t forget to download apps.

There are lots of apps to make travel easier and cut down your waiting time at the airport. Some offer restaurant suggestions, give updates on flight status and offer easy check-in at hotels.

Tip #5: Make an exercise plan.

Traveling can be tough on the waistline but if you plan ahead you can fit some exercise time into your schedule. Plus, a light workout will get you energized for a fun day ahead. Take 20 minutes in the hotel gym or go for a short run. Or use an app and workout in your room.

Speaking of your hotel room, you can’t go wrong with a hotel that offers a Satisfaction Promise. Hilton Garden Inn will do whatever it takes for guests to have an enjoyable stay, or they don’t pay. It’s GUARANTEED™.

Now the only thing left for you to do is book your stay...you’re a smart, savvy traveler now!
