Tips for Heart Health + Go Red For Women
February is the month of love not only because of Valentine’s Day, but because February is also American Heart Month! It’s the perfect time to show your heart some love through small changes that can lead to a healthier heart.
Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the U-S. But often times, we ladies get so wrapped up in taking care of everyone else, we ignore the symptoms or forget to take care of ourselves. So here are some simple ways to prevent heart disease and support education and research.
Schedule a doctor’s appointment to learn your personal risk for heart disease. If you’re a smoker, it’s time to quit! Did you know that just one year after you quit, you’ll cut your risk of coronary heart disease by 50 percent?
Get active. Just walking 30 minutes a day can lower your risk for heart attack and stroke.
Modify your family’s diet if needed. More fruits and veggies and leaner cuts of meat are some easy places to start to promote a healthier heart.
Now here is one of my favorite ways to make a difference during American Heart Month - through fashion!
Since 2004, Macy’s has been a national founding sponsor of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Campaign. The campaign is a nationwide movement empowering women with the knowledge and tools to reduce their risks of heart disease and stroke, and to protect their health. Together with associates and customers, Macy's has helped to raise more than $60 million to support Go Red For Women and that’s funded vital research and education efforts credited with saving hundreds of thousands of women's lives.
You can join me because Macy’s is offering customers 3 red dresses by Kensie, Thalia and Calvin Klein.
Purchase one and 10% of the purchase price will benefit Go Red For Women throughout the month of February!
Macy’s is also offering exclusive Ideology active wear in support of Go Red For Women to help you look great while staying active and healthy! This is an exclusive collection that includes a selection of graphic t-shirts again with 10% of the purchase price benefiting the cause. The dresses and activewear will be available in store and online at macys.com/GoRed. And one more thing - Macy’s shoppers can also help support the cause by participating in the Go Red with Macy’s Pin Sale happening until February 6th. Buy the official Red Dress Pin for $3 and receive a 25% discount on most purchases store-wide, plus 15% off select home, fine and fashion jewelry, and sale and clearance watches with limited exclusions. One hundred percent of the Red Dress Pin sales will benefit Go Red For Women and will stay in your local communities. It’s a win win for everyone!
So, let’s make those healthy changes AND support the cause through fashion this American Heart Month!
