Guilt-Free Sweet Treat

I’m going to be honest...I LOVE ice cream. But what I don’t love is the calories, sugar and fat that comes with it. In the spirit of eating cleaner and healthier in the New Year, I’ve found a delicious and super easy alternative that will satisfy your sweet tooth in a snap with one basic ingredient: BANANA!

Ice cream

You read that right. You’ll get the creamy, cold dessert you’re looking for with this fruit in just a few steps.

banana

Peel, slice and freeze a banana. You can also just throw the banana whole into the freezer, but I find it easier to slice it up and put it in a plastic baggie first. Wait until the banana is completely frozen to begin this recipe.

Add your banana slices to a food processor. Again, make sure it’s sliced into small chunks in order to get a quicker and easier blend. Blend for about 45-60 seconds until creamy and be sure not to over process or else the friction from the processor will begin to melt your ice cream.

Add flavoring! The natural banana flavor is delicious on it’s own, but if you want to spice it up you can try adding one of the below options:

*Chocolate Coconut:

Add some unsweetened coconut flakes and a tablespoon or two of cocoa powder to the ice cream and process for a few seconds until combined.

*Peanut Butter:

Just add a tablespoon or two of peanut butter and pulse for about 30 seconds until peanut butter is fully mixed.

*Cherry Vanilla:

Add a few frozen cherries (fresh will work, but frozen works better) and a few drops of vanilla and pulse until color turns consistent pink.

These are just a few suggestions, but you could get really creative with your flavoring options. You can even make a larger batch with several frozen bananas and store in the freezer to have on hand for when the craving strikes!
